ABSTRACT
The components of a structure have to be interconnected with each other, or with the supporting structure, in such a way that they are adequately restrained in their designed position. Forces resulting from external loads or restraint must be transmitted with the required safety and without causing any damage. Connections must withstand normal forces (tensile or compressive forces), shear forces or a combination of both.
