ABSTRACT
This paper describes an expert system for tank structure design /TASTDE/. The system was worked out and is used at Cracow University of Technology. On the basis of this system the following aspects were analysed: 1) the possible areas of application of this type of systems; 2) the particular character of expert systems applied to this design; 3) the possibility of aiding the phase of creative design by looking for new solutions in reference to civil engineering structures.
