ABSTRACT
In this connection there is some evidence which points to a deterioration of technical standards after the developmental stages of the technology. Thus a recent (1990) demolition of an early (c 1900) reinforced concrete building in Auckland brought to light extensive use of (blacksmiths) welded butt joints in the main (37 mm) reinforcement, thus avoiding lapping of bars even at this early stage for the technology.
