ABSTRACT
The stability and structural intergrity of these submarine pipelines can be seriously affected by strong currents which erode the seabed from underneath the pipe causing freespans to develop. If the freespan length and/or height continue to develop without corrective action then damage to the pipeline can result. This means significant potential loss of revenue to the pipeline operator, a potential safety risk for personnel and equipment near the pipeline and potential damage to the environment.
