ABSTRACT

Abstract The aim of this paper is to provide the qualitative and quantitative study of model prediction for several cycli cally varying stress or strain programmes of rock samples. In order to obtain the necessary information on the be haviour of tuff masonry structures under earthquake ac tions, either the material tuff or simple structural ele ments made of tuff bricks have been subjected to cycles of static and dynamic actions, in order to allow the identifi cation of the fundamental behaviours with damaging and pro gressive fracturing, to investigate typical post-peak be haviours and damage rules, and to collect the necessary data for life and failure prediction of such material and structures. A review and interpretation of representative experimental data is given on the cyclic properties. Emphasis is placed on data concerning the development of damage. Keywords: Damage, Cyclic loading.
