ABSTRACT

Abstract Recent developments in concrete technology during the last years have made it possible to produce high-strength concrete on commercial scale. The advantage of using highstrength concrete is obvious for a number of constructions such as offshore structures, long-span bridges, and high-rise buildings. Advantages can also be obtained by prefabricated elements, pavements and special structures for storage, fortification etc. Recent research has produced substantial results in concrete mix design, properties of fresh and hardened concrete, concrete durability, mechanical properties for design purposes, fatigue behaviour and fire resistance. The documentation of structural behaviour of elements such as columns, beams, plates and shells has been extended to high-strength concrete. Technical results have ended up in proposals and design recommendations concerning deformation properties, ductility, and flexural and shear capacity.
