ABSTRACT
T h e d r a m a t i c r e d u c t i o n i n t h e p o p u l a t i o n o f t h e E u r o p e a n l o b s t e r (Homarus Gammarus) h a s c r e a t e d a n i n t e r e s t i n l a r g e - s c a l e i n d u s t r i a l p r o d u c t i o n o f l o b s t e r j u v e n i l e s f o r t h e r e l e a s e u n d e r c o n t r o l c o n d i t i o n s i n c o a s t a l w a t e r s . A m a j o r p r o g r a m i n t h i s f i e l d h a s b e e n f u n c t i o n i n g i n N o r w a y f o r m a n y y e a r s w i t h b o t h p r i v a t e a n d g o v e r n m e n t a l s p o n s o r s h i p .
