ABSTRACT
It has already been noted (section 14.7) that where an elevated silo is supported on columns or other methods are used which introduce concen trated forces into the shell, the stress pattern disperses from very high stresses in a small zone to much smaller stresses over a wider region. The patterns of stress depend significantly on the placement of ring stiffeners on the shell wall.
