ABSTRACT

Tests on full-scale silos mostly concern wall pressure measurements and the structural behaviour of the test silo. However, tests related to the develop ment or improvement of technical devices for extraction of material from silos are also carried out in full-scale test silos. Full-scale test silos have the disadvantage that modifications, for example shape and dimensions of the bin or the hopper part, are difficult to realize and such changes are very expensive. An interesting question, however, is whether this disadvantage should still be preferred to uncertain translations of results from model scale tests to full scale.
