ABSTRACT

Abstract A Finite Element simulation of granular flow in silos is presented in this paper. The numerical model is based on a consistent continuum mechanics approach formulated in an Eulerian frame of reference. This method takes into consideration all relevant parameters like the interaction between the structure and the filling material, the stiffness of the structure and the decreasing density of the granular media during flow. The results of the numerical simulations may be of interest for the design of silos.
