Application of grids to prevent longitudinal cracking caused by an old concrete slab

Abstract In 1930's some main roads around Helsinki were paved with concrete. The concrete pavements were quite narrow, only 6 meters wide. One of those roads was a road from Helsinki to Turku. This road was widened to 8 meters in the late 1950's and at the same time it was overlaid with asphalt concrete.
