ABSTRACT

Abstract This paper describes a simplified method to analyze the crack reflective resistance of unreinforced and geogrid reinforced overlays. The method is based on a theoretical model developed at the Texas A&M University for the analysis of stress conditions in cracked pavement, laboratory testing on reinforced and plain asphalt as performed by the Netherlands Pavement Consultants, and work done at the Delft University of Technology on crack propagation in asphalt layers and pavement evaluation. Special attention is given on the collection of the needed input data in order to be able to run the overlay design model. Keywords: asphalt reinforcement, geogrid, modulus of elasticity, overlay design, reflective cracking, stress intensity factor.
