ABSTRACT

In recent years there has been a tendency in the world practice to implement reinforcing and anticrack interlayers which provide elimination o f reflective cracking and reduction o f depth of asphalt pavement courses. Normally various types o f geotextile materials (continuous or in the form of grids) are used for the above interlayers. It is considered that the availability of a thin interlayer between old cracked pavement and new one prevents the crack movement upwards or, in any case, delays the period of its penetration into a new structure. Behaviour o f the above interlayers has not yet been completely estimated, but the examination of experimental sections conclusively indicates a positive influence of interlayers on limiting of cracking or its substantial delaying in time. On Minsk-MogilevCherikov road experimental section cracks have not been revealed for 5 years. At the same time through transverse cracks appeared after 1 year and 9 months on another experimental section where no interlayer was applicated.
