ABSTRACT

Abstract In 1990, the offshore oil and gas industry co-operated in reviewing the state of knowledge relating to offshore hydrocarbon explosions and fires. The major finding was that information and tools available for characterising such hazards were limited. In response to this identified need 10 oil companies and the UK HSE are collaborating in a major project (Phase 2) to address this lack of vital information. This paper presents the background to the project and summarises its aims and objectives. A detailed review of the Explosion Test Programme and the structural response measurements that will be made during these tests is also presented. Keywords: Blast loading, fire engineering, hydrocarbon fires.
