ABSTRACT

Abstract ConstructionoftheSwarninarayanHinduMissionComplexinNeasden,northLondonwas completedin1995,generatingwidespreadinterestandacclaiminthetechnicalandnational press.Thecomplexcontainsanumberofbuildingsofnote,includinganornatetempleand aprayerandmeetinghalltoseat3000worshippers.TheBuildingResearchEstablishment (BRE)introducedin-servicemonitoringinstrumentationontotwoadjacent45mspansteel rooftrussesofthemeetinghall.Thepaperbrieflydescribestheinstrumentation,astatic loadtestperformedtoprovideacalibrationofthestructure-instrumentationsystem,some earlymonitoringresults,initialanalyticalmodellingofthestructureandtheapplicationof intelligentdatahandlingproceduresasastepleadingtowardsthedevelopmentof automatedrealtimeanalysisofstructuralmonitoringdata.
