ABSTRACT
Major concerns regarding potential pollution problems related to contamination by toxic liquid hydrocarbons (both soluble and insoluble) exist and so a major portion of this chapter will be devoted to organic liquids. It is also necessary to consider the potential interaction between municipal waste leachate (MSW) and proposed clayey liners for modern landfills (e.g., see MoE, 1998). This subject will be considered first.
