ABSTRACT
Concrete may be damaged in a number of ways through contact with salts. Salts are chemical compounds typically formed by reactions between acids and bases and which dissociate in water into their constituent ions. The problems of reinforcement corrosion associated with sodium chloride are well documented but deterioration of the concrete itself may also arise through contact with sulfate salts.
