ABSTRACT
An pore water under pressure has been reported (Holt, Leivo, Hammer) suggesting that self-desiccation may take place far before the time of setting. This coincides with the measured shrinkage development. The magnitude of the shrinkage may vary by concrete depth (the weight of the concrete may exceed the strain capacity at a certain point). The practical consequence is uncertain, but should be further investigated.
