ABSTRACT
Economic activity has led to the production and application of a broad range of organic compounds most of which enter the environment, including water bodies, in some way. Although not all of them are highly toxic, each xenobiotic compound influences, to a certain degree, the natural equilibrium and may have a negative impact on the aquatic ecosystem.
