ABSTRACT

The surface area of Lake Ladoga is 17,680 km which puts it tenth in terms of world lake size (Caspian Sea included). The maximum depth is 228 m. Depths exceeding 100 m are characteristic of the northern part, where sharp changes in depth occur over small distances. Towards the southern shore, the lake is less deep and the bottom is more even. The average depth of the lake is 51 m and the volume is 908 km3.
