ABSTRACT

Abstract For many years, an uncontrolled service life of concrete structures with an increasing spending of resources on repairs, rehabilitation and premature demolition do not only represent technical and economical problems. This is poor utilization of natural resources and hence also, an environmental problem. In the present paper, current experience on field performance and engineering practice including strategies for a more controlled service life is outlined and discussed. Keywords: Concrete structures, service life, steel corrosion, condition monitoring, preventive maintenance, life cycle management.
