Abstract This paper provides some insight into the response of rectangular steel ducting when subjected to high velocity internal pressure waves. Panel deformation characteristics were determined from a finite element simulation of typical impulse loading. A small scale model was tested in the laboratory under static internal pressure conditions, and behaviour of the structure was compared with finite element models of the same scale.
