ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the reader to the various ways of choosing a solvent system through its important characteristics. The characterizations based on phase diagrams, physical parameters, and behavior inside a countercurrent chromatography (CCC) column will be described. Then some theoretical parameters will be introduced to predict the behavior of the solvent systems so that the three ways of characterizing a solvent system can be obtained before any experiment inside a CCC device.
