ABSTRACT
For several decades proteases have been applied in detergent systems aiming to remove stubborn proteinaceous stains from fabrics. In the early days, the proteolytic enzymes were applied under conditions of which the washing system itself took the main burden of protein removal. Relatively high washing temperatures were needed to accomplish this. Proteolytic activity was merely used to prevent redeposition of protein material after dissolution in the washing process.
