ABSTRACT

During this century electrical domestic appliances have reduced the effort of houseworlc in a dramatic way. This development has led to much more leisure time for each individual person in the industrial nations. The laundry machine is considered the most important household appliance because, in former times, laundry washing was the toughest housework job. However, washing up is also very time-consuming, especially in larger families. In the United States the electrical dishwasher has been very common in the household over a longer time, the penetration of dishwashers having exceeded the 50% mark several years ago. In Europe, dishwasher penetration is still relatively low, but in some countries, substantial growth areas have been observed over the last 5 years. In countries such as Switzerland, Germany, or Scandinavia, for example, more than 40% of the households now own a dishwasher. Automatic dish washing is one of the last remaining growing markets for producers of electrical household appliances and detergents and has attracted much more attention in recent years.
