ABSTRACT

As all of you know, asphaltic materials are very important to the quality of our lives. A day does not pass in which we do not intersect with some form of these materials. In most cases, these interactions are beneficial. Thus, it is worrisome that the public is not more aware of the overall significance of asphalt and its many uses. Beyond potholes, there is not much public concern. However, more germane to this conference are the challenges that we face in understanding this very complex material and in finding ways to improve its performance [1—5].
