ABSTRACT

Uese secretive insects are noted for their ability to pin labyrinths of silken galleries in which they ve gregariously. They have no real social structure, a colony usually consisting of a single female and her brood of developing young. It is the weblike galleries that give them their common name, webspinners. They are also called embiids or Embiidina, this Latin name coming from embtos, meaning "lively" or "embodied with life."
