ABSTRACT

The order is the third largest group of insects, and, as might be expected, its members ocrupy a large number of habitats. They are chiefly associated with plant life either as pests or pollinators, or with other insects as external or internal parasites or as predators. As such, they play a significant role in the control of insect populations. Many ants are scavengers and also play an important role in the turnover of the soil.
