ABSTRACT
U nique to this order is the ability of many of its aquatic larvae to construct cases of unusual and distinctive designs. Although a few aquatic larvae of some other insects also make cases, none can be confused with these marvelous architects. Many caddisfly larval cases are so characteristic of the group that it is possible to infer something of the evolution of the order by this feature alone.
