In this chapter, we present the basic aspects of two main streams of evolutionary algorithms: evolution strategies and evolutionary pro­ gramming.

Evolution strategies (ESs) (Rechenberg, 1973; Schwefel, 1981) rep­ resent one of the main paradigms of evolutionary computation. The

starting point was the necessity for building systems that are able to solve difficult optimization and search problems involving real­ valued parameters.
