ABSTRACT

In the early and mid-1970s more attention was given in technical papers to theoretical methods of demand prediction than to the more practical problems of demand forecasting, particularly those of data collection, validation and analysis. The commissioning of studies to investigate how water is used, pioneered in Fylde and Malvern and developed particularly by Severn-Trent and South West Water Authorities, has changed this emphasis. Progress could only be made by finding out with a degree of accuracy what really goes on. The water authorities collaborated to produce "Components of Household Water Demand" which comprehensively lists the data collection experiments carried out by the authorities. This booklet is currently being updated.
