ABSTRACT
The success ofa seed-production program depends on the availability ofbreeder's seed of high genetic purity for multiplication. It is necessary to maintain the genetic purity of the breeder's seed in self-pollinated crops, to prevent any possible multiplication of contaminants, and to avoid the chance of rejection of foundation and certified seed of the improved cultivars of agricultural crops. It also saves on the cost and effort involved in the country's breeding programs.
