ABSTRACT

Specific morphogenesis (changes in cell shape) requires precise co ordination between environmental signals, cytoplasmic response, and cell wall development. Each cell can react to its environment by modifying expansion characteristics in response to specific stimuli. The organization of reinforcing cellulosic microfibrils in the wall de termines the polarity characteristics of turgor-pressure-driven cell expansion and thus cell morphogenesis ( 1, 2) .
