ABSTRACT

The bounds (3.4.7) and (3.4.8) are exact when either (i) c 161 = 0, or (ii) C262 = 0, Or (iii) C 161 = C262 ·

We have presented in this section general ratio forms for which good approximate intervals exist. In later chapters we will present other special forms that are unique to particular experimental designs . For most of these ratios, certain expected mean squares appear in both the numerator and denominator and there are order constraints on the eq. For example, in Chapter 6 we present a method developed by Ting and Graybill ( 1991) for setting a confidence interval on (e I - e3)/(e2 - e3) where e I 2: e3 and e2 2: e3. The final section of this chapter presents results for constructing simultaneous intervals on functions of variance components in balanced designs.
