A very important aspect of a quality program is the measurement of the average level of product quality achieved in the plant. Not only is it necessary to know whether processing is being properly performed, but also quality levels should be monitored. These measures will indicate whether or not progress is being made. Moreover, if there is a decline in quality, corrective action can be made in time.

MEASUREMENT OF AVERAGE LEVEL OF QUALITY In general, it is impractical to inspect and test all of the output of each operation in a production process. Therefore, sampling units are obtained, tested, and recorded both for daily and hourly lot-by-lot control purposes. The following is a typical sampling plan:
