32.1 Measurement of Strip Profile
The radiation principle has been successfully applied to the development of strip profile gages. The profile meter that was developed by Kawasaki Steel, Japan [1] is shown in Fig. 32.1 and consists of the following main components:
Stationary thickness gage that measures the center thickness of the strip
Scanning gage that measures strip thickness while moving at a right angle to the rolling direction
Profile calculator.
