ABSTRACT

6.1 General Properties of Steel

The following three general properties are usually considered in the design of a steel [1]:

Functional properties that are required by the alloy to allow the component to be manufactured to perform the designed function.

Cost properties that are required by the alloy to reduce the production cost and its fabrication into a finished or semi-finished component.

Surface quality properties which affect the appearance of the finished components in terms of surface finish, aesthetical appeal, etc.
