ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION The Clean Water Act of 1983 imposed national limitations on the concentration of metals al lowed to be discharged into the waters of the United States. States and municipalities have the authority to impose even more stringent pretreatment standards. In order to comply with the regulations, technologies were developed and continue to be developed that reduce the con centrations of metals in wastewater effluents to acceptable levels. The technologies currently available to reach the treatment goals have been reviewed in several EPA documents [1-6].
