ABSTRACT
We have taken the definition of a "material" to be "nonliving matter of academic, engineering, or commercial importance" (7). Food, drugs, fuels, and biological materials are not included in this chapter, although there are many applications of nuclear analytical methods for these materials. Nuclear fuels, however, are normally included in definitions of "materials" and several applications are listed for these fuels.
