ABSTRACT
Algae that are parasitic on plants are known only among the phylum Chlorophyta. Of those, only the genus Cephaleuros (family Trentepohliaceae order Trentepohliales) is known to cause diseases in economically important crops. The diseases caused by Cephaleuros spp. are commonly called red rusts or algal spots.
