ABSTRACT
Cell walls of host plants offer resistance to fungal and bacterial pathogens by rapidly modifying their structure when pathogens try to penetrate and disintegrate them. Early induction of cell wall modifications is characteristic of resistant interactions. The possible role of cell walls in host defense mechanisms is described in this chapter.
