ABSTRACT
Lignin is a complex polymer built from phenolic acids, which are reduced to the corresponding alcohols. Rapid lignification of plant cell walls appears to be an important host defense mechanism. The role of lignin in bacterial and fungal disease resistance is described in this chapter.
