ABSTRACT
Nitrogen is an essential element for plant growth but is not readily available from the atmosphere in spite of its abundance. Because of this nonavailability, both perennial and annual plants, have developed mechanisms during growth and development which allow storage and mobilisation of part of the nitrogen absorbed priorly. Redistribution of this nitrogen reserve among various plant organs is essential when internal or external factors cause a decrease in availability, absorption or assimilation of nitrogen.
