ABSTRACT

A female reproductive system of urodeles consists of two ovaries, two oviducts, spermathecae and cloacal glands. The ovaries are located in the abdominal cavity and connected to the body wall by a peritoneal tissue, the mesovarium. The ovaries lie symmetrically on either side of the midline of the body, in parallel position to the kidneys, the Mullerian ducts (oviducts), the Wolffian ducts (urinary ducts), and the fat bodies (Hope et ah, 1963; Lofts, 1984; Wake, 1985; Duellman and Trueb, 1986; Norris, 1997) (Figs. 1 ,2A and 3).
