In future food production, an increasing amount will be supplied by aquaculture. To manage this expected development, application of molecular biology tools will be instrumental in fighting the disease, production and environmental problems of intensive animal culture (Alestrom, 1996). A key to strategies for efficient DNA immunization, gene therapy and most transgenesis applications lies in efficient uptake of foreign genes by the cell nucleus, where transient expression and/ or genome integration occurs.
