ABSTRACT
The Acanthopterygii comprise 13 orders, in three series (Mugilomorpha, Atherinomorpha and Percomorpha) and as many as 267 families, 2,422 genera and 14,797 species (Nelson 2006). The basic sperm type is the anacrosomal aquasperm but several groups have secondarily developed similarly anacrosomal introsperm.
