ABSTRACT

ISDN, let's face it, is the "new POTS." Its advantages as a combined voice-data medium are obvious, and point towards a future where all communications run down the same set of digital pipes.

Why is ISDN phoning better than analog? It's fast: the dial-to-ring interval is fractions of a second. It sounds great (an ISDN-straightthrough connection carries a full 64 kbps audio payload). It's analogcompatible (you can still call all your friends with old-fashioned equipment). But that's not all.
