ABSTRACT
Switched Services provide the connection between your company and your local telephone company’s Central Office (CO). Calls travel over the local network (called the local loop) to the CO. The CO identifies the call as local (within the LATA) or long distance. Local calls are switched to other local COs as necessary. Long dis tance calls are switched to your long distance carrier’s network. Different services have different USOC codes and therefore differ ent rates. The main types of Switched Service (POTS, Centrex, Trunk, DID & Switched T l) are explained in this chapter.
