ABSTRACT

Remarkable as it sounds today, less than 30 years ago that was the state of the competitive telecom market. In 1968, a landmark decision by the Federal Communications Commission in the United States opened the telecommuni cations market place. In a short period of time this competitive spirit would spread around the world. By 1996, AT&T’s nearly 100% market share in long distance had dropped to a less than 50% share.
