ABSTRACT

Parting Words We originally undertook this book series to provide an alternative voice within the IT indus try regarding the Unified Process (UP). This series has clearly succeeded at that goal, describ ing a new vision for real-world instantiation of the UP called the Enterprise Unified Process (EUP). Since Scott Ambler first presented the enhanced lifecycle for the Unified Process in the pages of Software Development in November 1999, the article that motivated this book series, we’ve seen the Unified Process become the de facto standard for heavy-weight prescrip tive processes. In parallel we’ve seen the popularization of agile methodologies, such as Extreme Programming (XP), and the introduction of new methods such as Agile Modeling (AM). It’s an exciting time in the software process field, and this book series has led the way for extending the UP to meet the real-world needs of modern organizations. The many arti cles presented in this book series represent the ideas and ideals of the leading minds in the IT industry. If you have adopted the UP willingly, or if it has been forced on you by management or your clients, one fact remains — you have alternatives available to you when applying the UP, alternatives described within the pages of Software Development magazine over the years (www. sdmagazi ne. com).
